Jayce's NEW Room

So this morning we woke up to Jayce talking in his bed at 4:00am. He normally doesn't wake up that early so we knew something was up. When Layne went into his room he not only heard a talking boy---but he heard the sound of dripping onto our hardwood floors. His only thought was holy crap not again!!! So let me go back and tell you what happened almost one year ago.

When Jayce was 4-6weeks old we went to Layne's parents house and spent pretty much the entire day there. This was the first time we had been gone all day since he was born. When we returned home that night we found a huge (pretty much covering most of his floor) puddle of water in his room and the ceiling sagging. It was the worst feeling. From that we ended up fixing our water heater (which one of the hoses had broken), fixed the ceiling in Jayce's room and got new floors in the entire house from it.

Now fast forward to this morning. Layne goes into Jayce's room and finds a puddle on the floor. Luckily this time it had not been dripping for very long and we were able to save our floors. But not our ceiling. AND thank the LORD that Jayce was not in his room at the time when the ceiling caved in. Layne had brought Jayce into the living room at about 6ish to watch cartoons. Then he went into the attic to turn the water heater back on so that I could have hot water to take a shower with. When he did that he felt the insulation to see how wet it was and that was the end of that. The ceiling caved in on about half of Jayce's room.

SOOOOO....we now have a huge hole and it's freezing in his room and most of our house. Luckily, Jayce is spending the night at Layne's mom's house tonight. Also my super dad has some contacts and is going to have our ceiling fixed tomorrow. Thank goodness for parents!!! So that is how our morning started today...here are some pictures of our son's new and improved room. :)

Funny Story

Today during one of my classes, one of my students needed to go to the bathroom. It just so happened that I also needed water put in my squirt bottle so that I could clean my overhead. I told the boy that he could go to the bathroom as long as he filled up my squirt bottle also. Needless did I know what that little saying was going to lead to.

As the boy walked out of the room, with the squirt bottle, they burst out laughing! I was so lost until another boy said, "you really want him to fill that up?" I was totally confused....and then it hit me. HOLY COW!!! The students thought that I wanted him to PEE into the squirt bottle! OH MY GOODNESS. I was so embarrassed and couldn't believe that they thought that. I told all of them to get their minds out of the gutter!! Then we had the conversation about where he was going to fill it up and everyone laughed and laughed until the young man returned. When he returned, I decided to please the class and ask him "that's filled up with water right?!" He laughed and so did the class. He said of course it has water in it :)

So there you have it. You gotta watch what you say and how you say things to eighth graders!!

Diaper Cake

Last Wednesday our small group had a baby shower for one of the amazing couples. Lauren and Justin Stone are expecting a baby boy any day now. I just love our small group and all the couples in it. Each bring a unique quality to it and I really look forward to going each week. This week was no different. Two of the girls planned a "surprise" baby shower. I decided I would be crafty and make my FIRST diaper cake. I didn't get very many pictures at the shower due to chasing Jayce around, but I sure am impressed with my craftiness. :) I just went online and googled "how to make a diaper cake" and there it was. A step by step on how to make one. It was so easy!! I couldn't believe how easy it was. Of course after making this one, I have decided what I would change for my next one.

Here's our spread of desserts
The diaper cake was a fake dessert :)

See that baby book?! One of the girls in our small group MADE it!!! Isn't it so cute!!!

Sunny Days

Last week was so beautiful!! Thanks to the beautiful weather Layne and I took Jayce to the park several times. He is such a boy and sure loves the playground!!! He absolutely loves to swing! I can't wait until he can run around the playground screaming and squealing with laughter! Here are some pictures that sort of captured our afternoon.

Afternoon with Mommy

What a beautiful day today was. The air was cool and the sun was bright. When I got home from work today all I wanted to do was be outside in the beautiful sun. I decided to take Jayce to the park for some Mommy-Son time. What a fun time we had. Jayce has been to the park before, but the one we took him to didn't have a swing. So I drove around our neighborhood to find a park with a baby swing. He had such a good time swinging. When I would ask him if he was done he would shake his head NO really fast and hard. He was definitely NOT done. Even when I was done he was not. He cried when I got him out of the swing. He just didn't understand that it was going to get dark and then get even colder out. Here are some pics and a video of our afternoon. If you listen really carefully to the video you can hear me tell Jayce hi and then he says hi back. Such a fun lovin boy.

17 week check-up

Today I went to the doctor for my 17 week check up. It was supposed to be a 16 week check up, but I had to postpone it for some reasons. So Layne and I went in to see Dr. Strong. Everyone knows that I have been DYING to know what this baby is. I have no idea why I have wanted to know so badly, but I sure have. So I was telling Dr. Strong how much I wanted to know and he said, "Well I have some time, so let's go and take a peek." Let me just tell you that I LOVE DR. STRONG!!!!! I never in my wildest dreams thought that he would do an ultrasound early to peek at what the sex is. So we peeked and as he said, "I'm leaning towards a girl." Definitely not official----but holy cow!!!! We are probably having a GIRL!!! WOOOHOOO! We will have a family of four---one of each. How blessed are we! I will let you all know for sure when we go back in three weeks for my official 20 week ultrasound. Everything else is going well. She moves a lot, but I still haven't really felt her. I sometimes think that I do, but no big movements yet. So there you have it. Have a great rest of the week--I know we will :)

Play Room Fun

The other night Layne put up some shelves in our play room so that I could keep some things in there without Jayce getting them. They turned out great, but while we were doing this Jayce was playing in his new play room. He had so much fun. When we picked him to take him to bed he cried so hard. He was NOT done playing. He had been playing with all his toys for probably an 1 to 1 1/2 hours. It was so cute!! He was very content playing with everything he had in there. He would switch around from toy to toy, but he loved it all. Here are some pics of him playing hard.

His play mats are normally up against the wall on the left, but we had to move them out of the way while we put up our shelves. He really knows how to get all the toys out...we just have to teach him how to put them away :)

11 months old

Today Jayce is 11 months old!!!! Where has the time gone?!?! I just can't believe that in one month he will be one year old! It was like just yesterday we brought him home for the first time!! So what's he up to. Jayce is turning into such a big boy. Layne and I laugh at him all the time. He is quite the ham. He loves to make people laugh and he looks for their reaction. When he sees a flash go off from a camera he puts on his camera face. Here is some of what I get.

I know that I am his mom, but isn't he just too cute!!! I just love spending time with him. He is starting to speak to us in his own way. Jayce can say Mama, Dada, Hi, Yum yum, and I think he is trying to say doggy, but it sometimes is hard to tell. His favorite thing to say is Hi. It is just so cute. He will crawl up to you and in the sweetest voice he will say Hi to you and wave his hand. Gosh I just love that. He has also started telling us yes and no by shaking and nodding his head. It is really neat to see that he is starting to understand us and we can actually understand him. Jayce has also taken a few steps by himself. He really isn't too hot on walking, but I just can't believe that he's getting so close to walking. He is really fast when he crawls, so I think he likes that just fine.

Happy Birthday to ME!!

Yesterday was my 26th birthday!!!! So Happy Birthday to me!! I am one blessed woman. I got to spend the day with my awesome family and friends. We went to Fort Worth this weekend to visit some family friends. My parents and brother also went with us. So I got to spend the weekend with my mom, dad, brother, husband, son and some long-time family friends. It was great.

Laughter Family Christmas

So this was Jayce's FIRST Christmas and it sure was busy!! Two days before Christmas I had to take Jayce to the doctor because he was running a 101.5 degree fever. We found out that he had his first ear infection. We were hoping that by Christmas he would feel better, but we found out that his antibiotic was not strong enough and it wasn't helping much. We spent Christmas eve eve with Layne's parents and opened presents with them. Then Christmas eve day we went over to Layne's grandparents house on his dad's side of the family. We spent the afternoon/evening there and visited with family. This might be the last Christmas that we spend with his dad's side of the family because his grandmother has stage 3 Alzheimer's disease. We don't think that she even knew that it was Christmas. Then that night we went to my parents and spent the night with them. That's where Santa came to visit Jayce. My mom has a tradition of making stockings for everyone in the family. This year she got to make Jayce's. They are so special because they are so unique. So Christmas morning we opened presents at my parents house and then ate breakfast. That afternoon we headed out again. This time we were on our way to Layne's mom's side of the family's house--Layne's aunts house. This is where we ate dinner and opened more presents. Jayce was so sick and didn't want to do anything but sit with Mommy or Daddy. We didn't get many pictures this year since he was not feeling well.

So that's about it. It was very busy, but we got to see lots of family that we don't always see. It was nice. I sure am glad that we are finally home for a while though. Home is just so nice. Here are a couple of pictures of Jayce on Christmas morning.

riding his new rocking horse

Poor thing....he isn't too excited about Santa coming.

What the heck is all this stuff??

All the stockings hung with care....

Okay Okay.....

So my last two weeks or so have been such a blur. Jayce got his first ear infection followed by congestion and then another ear infection all in about a week. So we spent Christmas trying to cuddle with a sick baby instead of enjoying him open presents and spend time with family. So we went to the doctor twice in about one week. He is finally getting better, BUT he did give it to everyone he could. I think that it has affected me the worst. I guess with being pregnant and not being able to take much, but I sure got it bad. Last week I was in bed for two days straight and have just been drained. Needless to say I have not wanted to blog about anything. I am still getting better now that I found out that I could take cough syrup. So I will add posts about our Christmas break.
